5 Free Ways to Promote Your Cupcake Business in Your Spare Time

Sometimes business can be quiet and in those times when you have some spare time to use up, use the time efficiently to promote your cupcake business online to gain more attention and exposure. Some of these methods are often overlooked or unknown to small business owners.

Try these free quick methods to promote your business.

1. Sign up to Directories

Directories can be a great way to make more people aware of you and lots of them are also free!

Use these to your best advantage. Even if you don’t start to get orders through it straight away, your details will always be on that directory meaning you won’t have to touch it again but you could still get more customers from it.

Find directories that are associated with or targeted at your local area and sign up to them. This is a great idea as the visitors to the directory are already highly targeted to your area and the directory owners have already done all of the hard work for you.

Also consider signing up to wedding, birthday party and events directories as these are all areas where people may be looking to order cupcakes!

2. Inform Cupcake and Food Bloggers About Your Cupcakes

There are lots of website owners and bloggers out there that are always on the look out for brilliant cupcakes or exciting new business to write about.

A quick search on the internet will find a whole host of websites to choose from. Send a polite email to the website owner informing them about your business or send them a photo of the most impressive cupcakes that you’ve made lately.

A few to take note of are:

The Cupcake Blog

Cupcakes Take the Cake

Only Cupcakes

All Things Cupcakes

3. Share Your Photos on Reddit

You may not have heard of it but Reddit has a HUGE user base. Once you’ve signed up to it and have received your login details you’ll be able to upload photos to your profile to share with other users.

You can then choose a category to place your photo in, if it’s a photo of cupcakes then the ‘food‘ category will probably be your best bet, however experiment with other categories to see which will work best.

An image can spread like wildfire if people like it and your photo / website can be seen by thousands of people within a few days. Watch your website traffic skyrocket!

The only downside to this is that your traffic won’t be targeted as people from all over the world use Reddit. However if users decide to write a post or share your photo and link back to your website then this is a great way to build back links and make your web page rank higher in the search engines.

4. Submit Your Website / Blog Posts to StumbleUpon

Similar to Reddit but the user base is slightly different, StumbleUpon is a very easy way to get your website or photo to go viral quickly as users are simply able to click “I Like It”. This can help your website rank higher in the search engines. This also means people have another way of finding your website other than it just appearing in search engines.

5. Improve Your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

Use Google Analytics to see what people are actually searching for to land at your website. By using Google Analytics you can find information and data that would be extremely hard to find out otherwise.

Once you know what people are searching for and are interested in, you can add to or alter your website to suit your visitors needs and improve your SEO. This will in turn help your website to rank higher in search engines.

If you don’t update your website yourself then you can ask your web designer to set up an account for you that you can access or ask them to work on the SEO for you.

Some of these methods can have very fast results (Reddit, StumbleUpon) where as others take time to take effect such as improving your website SEO. If you implement all of these methods then you are maximizing your promotional efforts and will have more chance of gaining more exposure than if you do nothing.

Have you tried any of these promotional methods? How have they helped you?
